Unpacking the juxtaposition between two vastly different paintings, as a subject matter observing while being addressed, has made me revisit my thesis on black aesthetics. In this case, I've considered Gerard Sekoto's "Boy and the Candle" and Pieter Wenning's "Native Location, Pretoria." Who is the native and who is the spectator in South Africa?
